HISTORY:
Our faculty was separated from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which started education with a single department (Archaeology and Art History Department) in the 1993-1994 academic year, with the decision published in the Official Gazette dated 26 July 2022 and numbered 5868. With the related decision, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science were established instead.
In our Faculty of Science, there are 7 formal education programs consisting of Biology, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics and Space Sciences and Technologies.
In our faculty, students are allowed to receive education from more than one program with the application of Double Major and Minor Programs. Student exchange mobility is also carried out through international exchange programs.
In the building located in the Terzioğlu Campus of the Faculty of Science, there are 41 classrooms, 21 of which have technical equipment, 3 computer laboratories, research and student laboratories of the Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics departments, and the Herbarium Research Center. Ulupınar Astrophysical Observatory is located outside the campus.
There are seven departments providing education in our faculty;
1. Biology
2. Physics
3. Statistics
4. Chemistry
5. Mathematics
6. Molecular Biology and Genetics
7. Space Sciences and Technology
Physical Facilities:
Our faculty has an area of 15,400 square meters and is used jointly with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The faculty building consists of administrative floors, laboratories, and classrooms. On the ground floor of the administrative affairs block, there are dean's offices and teaching staff rooms.
On the ground floor, there is the accounting office for equipment and office supply inventory, student affairs, accounting unit, copier room, and Molecular Biology & Genetics Department. Dean's administrative offices and Biology Department on the 1st floor; On the 2nd floor, Dean's Meeting Hall, Mathematics and Chemistry departments; and on the 3rd floor, there are Physics and Space Sciences & Technologies departments.
A student canteen with an area of 275 m2 offers service on the ground floor of A-Block, where the classrooms are located. There are 31 visual classrooms in A-Block (2 of them are smart classrooms). There are 12 visual classrooms in our new classroom block (B-Block). In addition, there are 2 table-tennis tables in the classroom block to contribute to the sports activities of our staff and students.
