Strengths
• Our faculty is one of the most crowded faculties of our University with a total of 94 faculty members who are competent and successful in their fields, 30 Research Assistants-Lecturers and 7 departments (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Space Sciences and Technologies, Statistics and Molecular Biology and Genetics).
• The presence of faculty members who have received a high percentage of foreign education and foreign scientists in its staff is an important element that increases the quality of education in our faculty.
• Our faculty members are ranked highest in our university with their publications and citations in journals with high impact factors such as SCI and SCI-Expanded.
• The faculty members of our faculty are at the top in the country in terms of patents and innovative production per capita.
• Our faculty members are also in the first place in terms of the projects carried out and completed within the scope of DPT, European Union, TUBITAK and Scientific Research Projects of our University.
• In addition to having the potential to produce qualified projects, our faculty members also have a superior performance in transferring knowledge to students.
• In addition to the fact that each of the faculty members of our faculty has independent working offices and the opportunity to connect to the internet at any time with the computers provided by the institution, the fact that the departments and branches of science have their own secretarial and seminar halls and have indispensable technical areas such as laboratories is one of the important privileges provided by our faculty to the faculty members.
• Thanks to all this technical infrastructure, the success of our faculty in educating faculty members at master's and doctoral levels is very important in the ranking of our university.
• The existence of a total of 52 laboratories within our faculty, all of which are physically and technically met, ready for technological and scientific production, and with full capacity, is one of the most important factors that make our Faculty stand out in terms of research opportunities alongside its peers.
• A total of 41 classrooms, 27 of which have visual and technical equipment, 3 computer laboratories, research and student laboratories of the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Ulupınar Astrophysics Observatory (located outside the campus) stand out as the most important educational areas of our faculty.
• In addition, our Faculty is in an exemplary place with its success in organizing scientific meetings and organizations such as national and international Symposiums / Workshops / Workshops and sending participants to these organizations. As a matter of fact, since the first years of its establishment, our faculty has been supporting such academic activities within its budget and possibilities and financing participation in activities such as symposiums and workshops.
• The number of scholarship holders benefiting from the YÖK 100/2000 program is quite high and the departments of our faculty actively use student exchange programs such as Erasmus-Mevlana-Farabi at national or international level, thus increasing the quality level of education and training is at a very advanced level. In addition, by actively using programs such as Minor and Double Major, it is the faculty that graduates the most students in this field.
• In the field of Internship and Applied Courses, our faculty, which employs a large number of its students in various institutions and organizations every year and continues to follow them by directly making the necessary legal arrangements such as insurance premiums etc. of the students, stands out as one of the most successful faculties of our University in this field.
• With its experienced Administrative Staff who have experience in the field, the works of our faculty students and faculty members are solved correctly, on time and quickly. The desired level of student communication with the administrative staff is an important gain for our faculty.
• Compared to similar faculties, the sufficient number of recreational areas such as canteen, middle garden-courtyard and tea house used by students and staff in our faculty is important.
• In addition, a large number of active student clubs have an important added value in increasing the social development of our students. The organization of sports competitions, which are held regularly every year in order to increase the social and sports activities of our faculty staff and students, is an important tool in increasing the social relations between our students and faculty members.
• It is a plus value that our faculty has a very useful and active website prepared by competent people in the field where they can meet their needs and quickly access the information and documents they want for all students and academic and administrative staff.
• In the recent pandemic conditions, it is also very important that the units of our Faculty, which quickly adapt themselves to the new education conditions and have used almost all of the Distance Education channels with a very high success rate in terms of continuing the courses, have received high efficiency in this field.
Weaknesses
• Students do not know enough foreign languages and therefore the Departments cannot contribute to international student exchange programs such as Fulbright and Erasmus at the desired level.
• Due to the fact that the building of our Faculty is one of the oldest buildings on campus, the need for renovation services is high and the need for space (office, classroom, laboratory, etc.) increases every day due to the fact that we are a constantly developing and growing Faculty.
• Rapidly increasing number of students and high number of students per faculty member.
• Insufficient staff in the units of our faculty where administrative, technical and cleaning services are provided.
• Cooperation at the international level in the relevant fields of the departments of our faculty and the fact that the targeted level of scientific projects have not yet been reached.
• Failure to provide sufficient support to interdisciplinary projects with high contribution level to our faculty and failure to include young researchers or students in scientific projects at the desired level.
• Relations with our graduate students are not at the desired level.
• Scientific and industrial researches are often not put into practical practice and their contribution to the country's economy is limited.
• The financial support given by our faculty to national and international scientific studies is below the desired level.
• Some laboratories in our faculty have physical infrastructure and hardware deficiencies.
• The relations established with the faculty members and researchers in the Faculties of Science in other universities are not at the desired level.
• The level of implementation of career development programs within our faculty is below the desired level.
Opportunities
• Our faculty is located relatively close to major cities such as Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara and is in an advantageous position thanks to the increasing transportation facilities in recent years.
• Considering the socio-economic conditions of the region where it is located, it is open to innovation and development and is located in a suitable living space for both students and faculty members with its facilities that support university life.
• The close relationship of the region with Mount Ida, which has hosted important cultural developments for centuries, is an important acquisition for all fields of social sciences.
• To be in intensive cooperation with the companies established in Çanakkale TEKNOPARK.
• The increase in University-Industry cooperation in Çanakkale in recent years and the fact that the industry in the city is in development and therefore this is a great gain for the departments that are in direct relationship with the private sector.
• The fact that the largest and most important observatory of our country serves within our Faculty and that our departments directly related to this subject are actively carrying out important studies on this subject.
• Similarly, ÇOBİLTUM, which has been put into service in recent years and is considered to be the largest Research Laboratory in the region, is also serving within our Faculty and our departments directly related to this subject are actively carrying out important studies on this subject.
• Easy and convenient access to direct information resources at the point of physical location and technological infrastructure.
• The Central Library of our University, which is considered to be the most important library in the region, serves both our faculty members and students with on-campus and off-campus access. In addition, providing instant access to online resources and databases with the usernames and passwords given to our faculty members and students.
• In addition, the communication between academic staff and students and academic staff and administrative staff should be at the desired level.
Threats
• The budget opportunities of our faculty are limited.
• Increased student quotas.
• The internship, vocational trip and employment opportunities of our faculty students are limited on the basis of Çanakkale province.
• Inadequate urban infrastructure.
• Students do not pay enough attention to the orientation and occupational safety trainings carried out.
• Decrease in production processes and time allocated to research for scientific studies due to the excess course load of faculty members or their busy with administrative issues from time to time.
• Students' housing and accommodation needs, which have been an almost nationwide problem due to the increasing rent and dormitory fees in recent years with the Covid-19 pandemic process in changing conditions.
